The antivirus is preventing Chrome from providing security. You'll see this error if you have antivirus software that provides 'HTTPS protection' or 'HTTPS scanning'. Step 4: Temporarily turn off your antivirus Make sure that your device is up to date on Windows, Mac or another operating system. To fix the error, turn off the extension. If the page opens, a Chrome extension isn't working correctly. Open the page that you were visiting in an Incognito window.

I have switched over to Windows Defender on the PC that was causing problems. If the error mentions HSTS, privacy certificates or invalid names, try the following steps: Step 1: Sign in to the portal. So it appears that using Avast Anti-virus along with Firefox and Windows 10 somehow created the problem.I re-enabled Avast and the "Secure Connection Failed" error message reappeared. On the PC that failed, I temporarily disabled Avast, and by golly the "Secure Connection Failed" message was no longer a problem when I entered something in the Search window. On the PC that failed I was using Avast Anti-Virus. Sure enough, on the PC that worked, I was using Windows Defender for anti-virus.I discovered on another forum that Avast might be the problem. When using the Search Window at bottom left of Windows 10 screen labelled "Search the web and Windows", I consistently came up with "Secure Connection Failed" regardless of what I was searching for.

I changed the default browser to Firefox (version 39) in both of them.I had two PC's that I upgraded to Windows 10.Avast Anti-Virus was the cause in my case
